Fabulous movie, especially if you are an ABBA fan. Who cares if Pierce Brosnan can't sing? He's still a great actor and even better eye candy! And who knew Meryl Streep could sing like that? Christine Baranski and Julie Walters are a laugh riot...The songs are uplifting and singable, danceable. Perfect summer movie |

yes, i'll confess. i saw this film, and didn't hate it. something odd, though... i sat in an audience of 50 or 60 people, and was the only guy.
girls attended in pairs, in threes, in fours...young girls, old girls, big girls, little girls... girls everywhere... they surrounded me.
"where are all the boyfriends?" i thought. "the husbands? the brothers?"
"what's he doing here?" the girls must've all been wondering...
it felt like i had crashed a private party.
but seriously...
this is so obviously a "chick flick" - made by, starring and for the gals. and judging by the audience i sat with, it seems to have hit the mark - two hours of laughing, giggling, and dancing, bobbing heads.
whether you hail from mars or venus, though, there is at least one absolute truth in the universe that we should all be able to agree on...
pierce brosnan cannot sing. |

This was an amazing and very smart film which totally surpassed all my expectations and that doesn't happen very often. Heath Ledgers performace as the joker was the perfect blend of playful humour meets deranged psycho-path (keep an eye out for his pencil trick) |

Has there been a more hyped film this year? Has there been a film that has garnered more praise? Has an actor been more highly lauded than Ledger? How can this film possibly live up to its hype? Well, I don't know how it manged it, but The Dark Knight is not only the best comic book adaption that I have ever seen, but one of the best movies that I have ever seen.
To the very first scene of a back heist, to the last denouement, this film has it all. A truly bleak and compelling storyline, performances that grab you by the throat, and never let go (or in Ledger's case, grab you by the balls, and twist like there is no tomorrow) a script that is at times heartbreaking, and at other times uplifting.
The action scenes in the first film were quite rightly criticised, but in this film, they are utterly compelling. Watch the scene with the Swat vans, and then pick up your bitten nails off the floor of the cinema floor.
I cannot praise this movie highly enough. If you think that this is going to be a stereotypical "superhero" film then please put all your preconception aside, and watch a modern masterpiece unfurl before your eyes. |

In spite the undeniable Hollywood glut, I would have to say that this is one of the defining movies in the comic hero genre. Ledger is pretty awesome as Miller's vision of The Joker and has probably outdone Jack--although I haven't watched that one in a few years. I thought that Eckhart's two-faced character was still thanking me for smoking, though, until he apparently became obsessed Anton Chigurh? Weird flip! |

This surpasses SPIDERMAN 2 as the best comic book movie ever made, with Heath Ledger giving his second-to last performance as The Joker. He needs to get a posthumous Oscar, because I don't think there is any other actor who could match his performance this year. He was so amazing, it was the best performance of his short-lived Hollywood career. his performance was one of the best performances by an actor portraying a villiain since Jack Nicholson's portrayal of Jack Torrance in THE SHINING.
Not only that, this film balanced its dark and comic sides brilliantly- and the character of Bruce Wayne/Batman is excellently portrayed by Christian Bale.
The cinematography is so brilliant- the action sequences are excellent and very well shot.
One problem- it was rather absurd that Aaron Eckhart's character turned evil so quickly during his short time with the Joker in the hospital, the whole psychotic break thing was a little too much.
Still, that mistake is nothing compared the amazing experience you are going to have while watching this. It's an awesome movie. Not for the little ones, though. This, like WALL-E, is one of the best movies I have seen over the last decade or the last 30 years. And for me, it is tied with WALL-E as the best movie of the year.
Before WALL-E and THE DARK KNIGHT came around to theaters, I had no hope for film in the future. But now, after seeing these already classic films, I have now gained quite a bit of hope for films in the future.

This is a crime drama more than anything else and it is brilliant for most part. Ledger lights up the screen everytime the Joker comes on and it is nice work from everyone. And the city feels so real. To me the only weak point was the 2-face aspect which could have done with a little more 'turn to the dark side' syndrome. A must watch. |

A total masterpiece. The acting was flawless, while Heath Ledger stole the film with his incredible performance. I did not realise how great an actor he was until i saw this film. I was glued to the screen and totally forgot that it was an actor playing the Joker. Certainly one of the best performances of a villian i've ever seen. The story is tragic and haunting, even more so upon a second viewing of the film. The film is probably the best super hero film ever made. Yet it doesn't feel like you're watching a comic book movie. Its dark and complex, has great action scenes, yet also is intelligent. Its more of a dark crime drama. While the film lasts for almost three hours, not one minute of it was boring and it kept my attention all the way through. It was as amazing as i expected it to be and it surely lived up to all the hype. Heath Ledger certainly deserves to be at least nominated for an Oscar, as his performance is probably one of the best i've seen on film. If i could have my way the film would also win the Oscars or at least be nominated for best director and best picture. Overall a fantastic film and one of the best sequels ever made in my opinion, alongside the likes of The Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2 and Aliens. |

OMG WOW WOW WOW. this is INSANE. WAY beta than the first by far. heath played the BEST viliian in history easily. and OMG everything was so amazing. yes it was a long movie, but it was so full of action and suspense that i didnt even notice. i neva once thought 'oh wen the hec will this be over?' i didnt want it to finish! they beta make a sequel. omgosh poor heath. this role obviously took more out of him then he cud take. but omword he put like EVERYTHING into this role. he was INSANELY amazing... he kinda stole the spotlite from bale but i dont think anyone minds. and wow the effects n cinematography was soooo amazing. a lot of good twists too n the joker's jokes cracked me up. it bugged me wen everyone was laffin in the cinema at dent's new 'two face'... even thow it was slightly amusing...
the only reason its half a star away from top marks is cuz maggie as the main female role irritated me. so i didnt mind she died. but i wanted to mind, so they shud hav picked som other girl. besides that thow... wow so so good. |

I can honestly say this movie was flawless. "Flawless?" says dear reader, "then why not a five star rating?". To that I reply that although all areas of the movie went far above par, I cant say that there was a real hole in one. See, I'm the kind of guy that is willing to forgive tons of problems with a movie for one great redeeming factor. Be it the music, the characters, the effects, I get a major stiffy for doing something groundbreaking or just particularly well and am willing to let lack of plot, horrible acting, or poor dialogue slide when for some it may disrupt the movie. So although Batman was all around great, there wasn't something I could completely latch onto. Ledger's Joker performance contests Jack Nicholson in The Shining for best gleeful maniac but the acting doesnt soar do to being bogged down Gyllenhaal. The effects were wonderfully un CGI, but the two face thing was kind of overdone. The cinematography had its moments but was not as good as I expected from a movie shot in IMAX. The music created decent atmosphere but was very forgetable. All in all great, but number one on IMDB? idk |

Believe the hype!!! Ledger is fantastic, he made the Joker a sociopathic blood thirsty freak that will (IMO) never be bettered. Oscar stuff. Not to spoil it too much but Dent was good too, I had no idea he was in it before going. Bring on the next one, but how do you follow this, it beats Spidey, Xmen, F4, and Superman hands down. Can I give it a 6? |

To say this was an accomplishment is the biggest understatement of the new century.
Heath Ledger, this is what this movie was always going to be about and whether he died or not it didn't matter because the joker is the heart and soul of this movie. Ledger creates something phenomenal. The last time i felt that way about a character was Hannibal Lecture played by Anthony Hopkins.
The movie itself starts on a such high note, it must be one of the best introduction to such an amazing character. Easily one of the best opening sequence you will see this year.
I can type all day about every scene he was in and how perfect he did it but just do yourself a favour and watch it 3 times or more to understand the brilliance he put into the character.
Everyone else does a great job too and gets perfect screen time. The story pans out wonderfully and ends on a high note.
I can't help but feel sadness as the hype is over now but we can celebrate an actor who really was onto something special. |

Gone has the Gothic feel and most of the cheese. Finally a Batman film to be proud of. Not the best Joker but a but a very close second to big Jack. this movie was soooo good. first of all, Heath ledger's Joker was amazing. not only was the acting oscar worthy, but the character of joker was so true to the comics, from the sadistic humor, to the cross dressing, and obsessiveness. perfect!! i loved the over arching theme that anyone is corruptible and that it takes real, sacrificial heroism to avoid that fate. harvey dent was essential to telling this story and he too was faithful to the original comics. the only weak point of this movie for me, was christian bale's voice as batman. his words were poorly enunciated and overly breathy. and i do wish batman was more of a detective. but it was definitely one of the best comic book movies of all time. |

Suspenseful from start to finish- I barely had time to catch my breath from one plot twist to the next. Truly excellent acting. My one quibble: as with Batman Begins, way too much destruction - I could have done without quite so many insane car chases in which everyone and every type of vehicle imaginable was not only involved, but blown up. Oh, and Ms. Gyllenhaal's rather insipid portrayal of a horribly written character was disappointing (if not unexpected). But for all that, I'd see it again! |

Nolan and company build on the excellent Batman Begins reboot, with this anarchic whirlwind of a movie that is dense, dark and deep. This lifts it out of its comic book confines.
Here we have a battle for Order v Chaos. Where all the grey bits in between are relevant. Here we have questions of sacrifice, of identity, of power. The Dark Knight is more than just a run of the mill comic book movie. Our hero is a billionare playboy who uses his fortune to beat crimnals up. The villain is a psychotic masochist who wants to see the world burn. There are no super powers here. Just choices.
Bale again pulls of the Batman/Bruce Wayne role with muscular aplomb. This time out his broody nature curtailed as his seeks an immediate answer to Gotham's trouble. The returning cast, Caine, Freeman and especially Oldman give brilliant performances in their supporting roles.
But the film belongs to Ledger and Eckhart. Ledger's Joker is far removed from Nicholson's hammy rendition. Here is Chaos incarnate. All nervous ticks, salivating tongue, and insane cackle.
Eckhart's Dent is a perfectly written characterisation of tragedy. His story is the main arc of The Dark Knight, and Nolan handles all the beats of his development perfectly so they don't become lost in the tsunami of Ledger's Joker.
Wonderfully shot, perfectly scripted, casted and acted, The Dark Knight has raised the bar not just for Comic Book films but for the Summer movie.
Essential. |

Incredibly well done. Amazing action sequences. The scenes with the joker were epic. Scenes not featuring him felt forced at times, and I felt they could have focused a little more on Bruce Wayne's character. Still, definetely one I'll be seeing again, and one I recommend. Honestly, this sequal is a bit worst then the last one cause there are too much anti-climax moments and no cliffhanger at all. Not everthing has to be shown on screen or say it out by actors...
What Bruce has trained on the fist one was totally wasted that he fight just like a "Bang" "Swoop" "Zap" type of super hero (unless Nolan wants to bring back the style like Adam West Batman) instead of trained martial artist.
Also, Harvey Birdman.. I mean Harvey Dent doesn't has to be wiped at the end of the movie, he is one of the big Batman's villian "Two Face" and worth to be stay in the series of a while (sorry for the spoiler).
I will see this again on the silver screen is only for the lovely Joker. Heath Ledger did a maverllous job on brnging him to life. |
