Samuel L. Jackson's "Lakeview Terrace" Poster Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other Screen Gems finally released the official poster for the upcoming Samuel L Jackson thriller "Lakeview Terrace," featuring a shot of Jackson from a previously-released still. The tagline states: "What could be safer than living next to a cop?" In the film, a young couple (Wilson, Washington) has just moved into their California dream home when they become the target of their next-door neighbor, who disapproves of their interracial relationship. A stern, single father, this tightly wound LAPD officer (Jackson) has appointed himself the watchdog of the neighborhood. His nightly foot patrols and overly watchful eyes bring comfort to some, but he becomes increasingly harassing to the newlyweds. These persistent intrusions into their lives ultimately turn tragic when the couple decides to fight back. Check out the trailer for more on this movie. "Lakeview Terrace" is directed by Neil LaBute, the man behind the terrible "Wicker Man" remake, but also behind the very entertaining "In the Company of Men." His new movie is scheduled to hit theaters on September 19th.
Dennis Quaid's "The Express" Poster Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other The poster for the upcoming Dennis Quaid football movie "The Express" has been released, featuring a shot of Rob Brown as football hero Ernie Davis. The tagline states: "He changed our country... One yard at a time." Based on the incredible true story, "The Express" follows the inspirational life of college football player Ernie Davis (Brown), the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Following his draft by the NFL, tragedy struck the star athlete and he was never able to take the professional field. But his tale would forever change the face of professional sports. Raised in poverty in Pennsylvania coal-mining country, Davis overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles to become an unstoppable running back for the Syracuse Orangemen. Under the guidance of coach Ben Schwartzwalder (Quaid) — a hard-nosed surrogate father with an obsession for winning a national championship — Davis would develop from an impressive high-school athlete into a legend. While everyone agreed Ernie Davis was a miracle player, few thought this quiet young man would become an icon for the burgeoning civil rights movement dividing America in the early 1960s. Refusing to play by the unspoken racist rules of the day, Davis broke through one barrier after another to alter the way fans looked at men of his color. Though struck a terrible blow in the prime of his life, his spirit soared when most would crumble. Forcing his bull-headed coach to re-examine a life lived in color-based privilege, Davis would join the ranks of black pioneers who inspired a movement that smashed barriers on and off the playing field.
First Look: Mila Kunis in "Max Payne" Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other I'm not sure if you were able to catch Mila Kunis' one second scene in the trailer for the upcoming "Max Payne" movie, but don't worry, we now have a nice, clear shot of her. She recently spoke to USA Today, claiming that fans will go crazy for how she looks in her outfit. "I made the mistake of stumbling on an Internet site of fans and what they thought of the casting," Kunis explains. "I hope I don't cross them on the street before the movie. Maybe they'll change their minds when I'm in leather pants and bustier." Take a look at the picture, and tell me... are you impressed? The film revolves around Payne (Mark Wahlberg), a DEA agent whose family was slain as part of a conspiracy. In order to avenge their deaths, he must come together with a deadly assassin (Kunis) who is also out to avenge the death of a family member, her sister. Chris O'Donnell (Batman & Robin) will play an executive for one of the big corporations that are allegedly involved in the conspiracy. Check out the trailer here.
Megan Fox's "Jennifer's Body" Poster Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other Fox Atomic has released the official poster for the upcoming Megan Fox (Transformers) horror film "Jennifer's Body," which is written by Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Juno). The poster features the mouth of Fox as she licks blood off her lip. Unfortunately, it is the exact copy of the poster for HBO's "True Blood." The story of "Jennifer's Body" revolves around a cheerleader who is possessed by a demon and starts feeding off the boys in a Minnesota farming town. Her "plain Jane" best friend must kill her, then escape from a correctional facility to go after the Satan-worshiping rock band responsible for the transformation. The new movie is directed by Karyn Kusama, the woman behind "Aeon Flux" and the great "Girlfight." "Jennifer's Body" is tentatively set to hit theaters next year.
Two Great "The Day the Earth Stood Still" Posters Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other 20th Century Fox has released two posters for the upcoming "The Day the Earth Stood Still" remake, featuring one that's similar to the banner from Cinema Expo and another showing a shot of Gort. Check out the trailer for more on this movie. The story revolves around Klaatu (Reeves), an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers a global upheaval. As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind the visitor's appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson (Jaden Smith) get caught up in his mission – and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described "friend to the Earth." "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is scheduled to hit theaters on December 12th.
Amazing "Max Payne" Posters Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other 20th Century Fox have released two great posters for the upcoming big screen adaptation of the "Max Payne" video game. One features a shot of Mark Wahlberg from a scene that we have seen in the trailer, while the other is similar to the cover art of the game. The action-thriller tells the story of a maverick cop determined to track down those responsible for the brutal murder of his family and partner. Hell-bent on revenge, his obsessive investigation takes him on a nightmare journey into a dark underworld. As the mystery deepens, Max (Wahlberg) is forced to battle enemies beyond the natural world and face an unthinkable betrayal. The film is being directed by John Moore, who previously brought us "The Omen," "Flight of the Phoenix" and "Behind Enemy Lines." "Max Payne" is scheduled to hit theaters on October 17th.
"Dark Knight" beats total of previous Batman film Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other After just six days of release in North America, the new Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" has grossed more domestically than its predecessor did in its entire run, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures said on Wednesday. The Time Warner Inc-owned studio projected the film would sell about $17 million worth of tickets on Wednesday, taking its U.S.-Canadian total to about $221 million. It tallied $158.4 million of that sum during its first three days, setting a new opening-weekend record. In surpassing $200 million on Tuesday, "The Dark Knight" took five days, breaking the record set in 2006 by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," which took eight days to reach that mark. By contrast, 2005's "Batman Begins," the first entry in the revived franchise, finished its four-month run with $205.3 million, according to tracking firm Box Office Mojo. Both films were directed by English filmmaker Christopher Nolan, and star Welsh actor Christian Bale as Batman. Interest in the sequel was stoked by Heath Ledger's edgy turn as the villainous Joker. It represented the Australian actor's last completed role before he died of an accidental overdose of prescription pills in January. Warner Bros. distribution president Dan Fellman predicted Thursday sales of about $16 million. And industry observers say that even if "Dark Knight" were to lose a respectable two-thirds of its business in its second weekend, it will have banked close to $350 million after its first 10 days. At that stage, it will be within striking distance of the worldwide haul of $372 million for "Batman Begins." "The Dark Knight" will enter the top-10 for all domestic releases once it surpasses the $373.6 million tally for 2004's "Spider-Man 2." The studio is conservatively estimating domestic sales will eventually exceed $400 million, which would make "Dark Knight" the first film to break that mark since the 2006 "Pirates of the Caribbean" film. Even with the Ledger-related buzz and overwhelming critical acclaim, Warner Bros. evidently took no chances on getting the word out, according to ratings firm Nielsen Co. It said on Wednesday that the studio ran nearly twice as many television commercials for "Dark Knight" (2,401) than it did for "Batman Begins" (1,287). The nine-week tracking period stopped 12 days before the launch of both films, Nielsen said.
Pitt drives with daughter on his lap Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other A safety organisation has hit out at Brad Pitt after the actor was photographed driving with daughter Shiloh on his lap, says the Daily Mail. Photographs of the 44-year-old behind the wheel of a golf buggy with Shiloh have prompted an angry response from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. A spokeswoman for the group said: "Children shouldn't be sitting on parents' laps when driving a vehicle because the child could be distraction to the driver. And should there be an accident the child would be put in a dangerous position." She added: "Children should be in their own seat in the vehicle." Popstar Britney Spears was similarly criticised after she was pictured driving with son Sean on her knee in 2006.
Bale sister, mum keep quiet on arrest Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other Christian Bale's family has declined to comment on his arrest for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister. A man answering the door at the home of mother Jenny in Bournemouth said she had nothing to say after the Batman star was detained then bailed. Meanwhile, the actor's sister Sharon shouted at reporters that "it's a family matter". The actor is alleged to have "lashed out" while at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night.
Love slates 'sociopath' Coogan Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other Courtney Love has called her ex-lover Steve Coogan "sociopathic" in an online tirade. Writing about her relationship with late husband Kurt Cobain on her MySpace page, the Hole singer recalled her clash with Coogan. "The only real 'feud' I ever had was with Mr. Self Destruct [Cobain] back in the '90s and he started it," she wrote. "I just had a far better bon mot than him, which happened." She continued: "Oh wait, there [are] two. I do not care for that British comedian very much, he's very mean and he's very unusually dark. Maybe I have father issues, attracting these sociopathic men occasionally." Love last week criticised Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan for refusing to attend her daughter Francis Bean's 16th birthday party. She also posted an online rant against Ryan Adams, accusing him of stealing her money to fund his 2003 album Rock 'N Roll.
The Dark Knight Sets Monday Box Office Record. Also, Strange Audience Observations… Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other According to Box Office Mojo, The Dark Knight grossed $24.5 million on Monday and set yet another record: biggest non-holiday Monday of all time. On Tuesday, the film grossed $20+ million, coming in second place for Top Tuesday behind Transformers, bringing it to $204 million domestically. The film is scheduled to earn more in its first week than any other film in history. The movie is a flat-out cultural phenomenon. And I’ve talked with a number of people who have overheard odd conversations amongst people waiting on line to see it. Previously, we reported that 64% of moviegoers plan on seeing the film again. But there are a few other moviegoer stats we’d be curious to see, based on things we and others have observed and overheard. A) The number of people going to see The Dark Knight that do not realize it’s a sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins. For example, this conversation that I overheard: John Doe: “Why is this movie called The Dark Knight and not Batman?” Jane Doe: “I guess there are those three other Batman movies.” Of course, this marks the sixth major Batman film. I guess these moviegoers can be attributed to The Joker factor. (Some would label it the “dumbass factor.” I will not.) So many people equate Batman with The Joker that previous Joker-less efforts fly below their radar. Also, some people are clearly just there for Heath Ledger, others just dig the “dead guy factor.” B) The number of moviegoers that think the film is a “prequel” to 1989’s Batman, and the number that have only seen the ‘89 and ‘08 films. I’ve talked with people on both coasts who have overheard this misconception at theaters big and small over the weekend, and not just amongst the olds, which is surprising. On Monday’s /filmcast, Kevin Smith added that anticipation for TDK did not surpass that for 1989’s Batman. He then proceeded to offer our staff handjobs, but staying on topic, he has a point—though most 20somethings who experienced both would disagree with him. Tim Burton’s first film and Chris Nolan’s second are being seen the un-geek as related bookends, and in a way those two films define how our culture, films and moviegoers have changed in this time frame. For instance, compare Kim Basinger’s Vicki Vale to Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Rachel Dawes. Compare the ‘89 Joker throwing money out to the insatiable, rioting masses to the ‘08 Joker’s boat party, where the masses undergo a post-911 soul search. The gross and steam-wafting streets of ‘89 Gotham to ‘08 Gotham’s sleek, brightly lit modernity (also, poverty free? And with more trustfunders).
From Page to Screen: 'Beowulf' Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other Robert Zemeckis's Beowulf took a lot of hits for its perceived silliness, a verdict I could never quite sign on to. First of all, silly compared to what? Have these people seen the 1999 space opera Beowulf starring Christopher Lambert? Compared to that, Zemeckis's Beowulf is a sober meditation on the human condition. Have they seen the Gerard Butler clunker Beowulf and Grendel? Come on, guys: considering what the movies have done to this story in the past, last year's high-tech effort seems like serious business to me. What about the source material – the ancient Old English epic poem upon which these movies purport to be based? If you've ever read it (or tried to read it), the perversions of the adaptations shouldn't surprise you. It's both begging for action movie treatment and impossible to faithfully adapt into anything resembling a compelling action movie. The story is credited with generating many of the archetypes we see in our fiction, and indeed, it's so archetypical that by modern standards, it's a skeleton; there's nothing there. Seriously – you know how people complain about movies whose plots can be fully described in one sentence? A faithful Beowulf would take this phenomenon to new heights. A synopsis would read something like this: Beowulf beats up Grendel, Grendel's mom, and a dragon, and dies. The end. Some complained that the Zemeckis version distorted Beowulf, but I'd have liked to see their reaction to an undistorted adaptation. Trust me, it wouldn't work. There's a reason that all these screenwriters have scrambled to add elements to the story. And as long as we're adding elements, I think that Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary, who adapted the poem for Zemeckis, added some pretty interesting ones. (Not surprisingly – the two of them don't really do boring.) Parts of their screenplay were ridiculed because they seemed so left-field compared to the source material, but in truth most of Gaiman and Avary's work was actually quite logical, and in the spirit of the story. The movie probably took the most flack for recasting Grendel's mom as a dangerous, Siren-like seductress portrayed by an animated Angelina Jolie. At first blush that does seem goofy, considering that the conventional reading of Beowulf sees Grendel's mother as a more fearsome, wretched incarnation of the deformed monster that is Grendel. (There is some controversy about this.) But approaching it that way would have reduced the film to a pointless exercise in CGI one-upmanship. Grendel himself, as portrayed by a mo-capped Crispin Glover, was a genius creation, both scary and pathetic; even if the contortions to hide Beowulf's privates during the big naked fight scene turned silly (one thing the critics are right about), the movie's treatment of Grendel was admirable and impressive. But isn't it cooler, and scarier, to learn that Grendel's mom is a different kind of villain – an eternal temptress rather than just another computer-generated monstrosity? The poem means Grendel's mom to be a more formidable enemy than her son, and the film's take on the character seems like a logical and effective way to accomplish that. And then there's the third act, which turns Beowulf into a sort of tragic figure, focusing on his dawning realization that his legendary reputation is manufactured and that his heroism is more perception than reality. (It also makes the fascinating suggestion that Christianity invidiously replaced heroes with martyrs, something I wanted to see explored further.) Some people thought this was drawn out and irrelevant to the story, but think about it: Beowulf is basically a non-person in the poem, an archetype rather than a character. Gaiman and Avary considered the implications of Beowulf's adventures: what they would do to a real human being. The screenplay adds a necessary dimension that the story, in its original form, simply didn't have. Look, it's not a great movie. Its cartoony appearance belies its attempts at seriousness, the PG-13 rating is a major obstacle to a lot of what it wants to do, and some of it is – yes – a little silly. But it does genuinely interesting things with a legend that's celebrated more for its historical importance than for its merits as a narrative. I was bored to tears when I read Beowulf some years ago; the Zemeckis/Gaiman/Avary version didn't bore me for an instant.
Film Blog Group Hug: The 'Twilight' Edition Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other Boy, you miss a few weeks work to move 2,000 miles, and you fall behind on all kinds of things going on in the world of Twilight. All you Twilighters have, no doubt, been keeping up to speed with everything that's been going on out there -- you're making plans to attend Breaking Dawn parties, planning what you're going to wear, entering giveaway contests, and getting your Twilight-inspired costumes put together (who knew there were so many varieties of vampire fangs out there?). I know, you have it much more together than I do on all the Twilight madness, but hey, I've been on the road with four kids, a dog and a cat all crammed into a 1998 Ford Windstar, moving back to Seattle, so I'm just now getting around to catching up. So here's a rundown of all-things Twilight for you -- in case you, like me, have been having a busy summer. Did you know Breaking Dawn comes out August 2? Of course you did. I know, because my 11-year-old hardcore Twilight fanatic reminds me at least twice a day with an up-to-the-minute countdown of exactly how long she has left to wait until she can get her copy and dig into it. In the meantime, you can whet your Breaking Dawn appetite with a daily countdown fix in the form of alluring Quotes of the Day from the new book. Whoo boy, have those Twilighters been having a ball analyzing every last quote to try to figure out from them what exactly is going to happen in the book. Hey, we have to pass the time until August 2 some way, right? Think you know more about Twilight than anyone else? Go test your knowledge on MTV's Twilight quiz, and see how you stack up against your Twilight-crazy friends. For all you fans out there who are really into Jacob Black, Reelz.com has an interview with Taylor Lautner, who plays teen-werewolf Jacob in the film. I'm liking this kid more, the more I see of him; hopefully his turn in Twilight will forever banish those pesky memories of Sharkboy and Lava-Girl from the recesses of my brain. Who wants a Twilight poster signed by the cast? You do, of course -- well, you and 89,000 other Twilight fans. Pop on over to the official Twilight site, watch the newest trailer (again) and enter for a chance to win! If you're in New York, you'll want to be at Border's at Penn Plaza for the Breaking Dawn release party, where those enthusiastic fans from Twilight Lexicon will be on hand to host a trivia contest, talk about the series, and more. Oh, and there's a costume contest, so start polishing those fangs now. If you're not in New York, chances are there's a Breaking Dawn party being hosted near you, so find one now. Can't find one? Host your own already. Sheesh. I'll be taking my daughter to one of the Seattle-area parties (surprise, surprise), and I'll post some pics of that one here. If you go to a party, take lots of pics, post them up on your Flickr account, and point me to them. Newsweek has an interesting article up about the Twilight series as a vehicle for mother-daughter bonding -- and, particularly, as a starting point for discussions about pre-marital sex. One of the greatest appeals of the book from a mom's standpoint is that it addresses young love and sexual desire without a bunch of teens ripping their clothes off. Series author Stephenie Meyer, a Mormon, doesn't want Edward and Bella having sex before marriage; the whole, "Sorry, I'm a vampire, and if we have sex I could kill you" thing is an excellent vehicle for keeping Bella and Edward's pants on without getting preachy. And, of course, lots of moms and daughters are just enjoying sharing the series together. There's only so much Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers we can take, but we moms never seem to tire of talking Twilight. The LA Times has Twilight in the Number Two spot in their list of Things to Watch for at Comic-Con. Of course, Cinematical will be at Comic-Con in full force, and we'll be covering all the Twilight news you can handle. Supposedly, they'll be giving out Twilight trading cards ... you hear that, Erik and Scott? I want some of those for my daughter. Do not leave Comic-Con without them. Alright, that's a pretty good round-up for now. We'll be you bringing heaps of Twilight news (oh, sure, and other news too) from Comic-Con, so stay tuned. And heaps of thanks and praise as always for the excellent folks at Twilight Lexicon and Twilight Moms, who are always on the ball with all news coming out of Twilight Central. You guys seriously rock. Oh, and side note: Anyone read Blue Bloods? I bought the first book in that series for my daughter to read on our long-ass road trip, and she really dug it. Now she wants the rest of the series to keep her busy until August 2.
What Happens When Terrorists Attack Vegas? Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other This new project sounds so incredibly cheesy that I sort of expect Steven Seagal to show up in mob attire, and Sylvester Stallone to turn up as a terrorist or something and have an epic, muscley battle. Get this -- The Hollywood Reporter has posted that producers Moritz Borman and Peter Graves have scored the film rights to a novel called The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending by Jon Land. The flick will follow a guy named Michael "The Tyrant" Tiranno (modeled on entrepreneur Fabrizio Boccardi), who was raised by a don from the Sicilian Mafia and becomes a real estate mogul. He builds a Las Vegas casino called Seven Sins that gets targeted, along with three other casinos, by suicidal car bombers believed to be Islamic terrorists. So of course, The Tyrant sets out to find the man responsible, which leads him to antique secrets and nonstop action. The plan is to make this whole puppy a franchise, and I have to say -- I'm sort of glad. I'd much rather have a new weird action plot than more Rambos or other '80s franchises. But what about you? Are you hungry for The Tyrant?
Miley Cyrus' Stints with Sexiness #302 Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other We've had the racy private photos, then the controversial Vanity Fair shoot, then wishes for a new Sex and the City. Now, Miley Cyrus' name is being attached to yet another racy-themed gig. According to MSNBC, sources are buzzing and rumors are mounting about a new project for the itching-to-age actress -- one that's making the whole racy mag shoot seem like a stepping stone into adult work. Rumor has it that she's interested in starring in a big-screen adaptation of the annoyingly spelled Undiscovered Gyrl, a novel by Allison Burnett that is currently being shopped around. The novel is a blog from a suburban girl "who descends into a life of reckless partying and promiscuity," and there would definitely be nude scenes. Charming. Chances are, this is a buzz-generator for the book, but it could also be a buzz generator for Cyrus. Even if she doesn't take on this gig, she's getting lots of mileage out of the "Miley wants to grow up" rumor mill. But really, if she wants to break out of the tween girl persona, the best bet is not raciness and a Britney Spears life path, but rather a few good films that give her some drama, or smarts, at her own age. You can break out of family fare without stripping and showing off the merchandise.
News Bites: Murray Flies Through the Air & 'Roger Dodger' Reunion Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other We've seen Bill Murray do a lot over the years, but have we ever seen him as a tried and true, REAL stuntman? Jam! reports that the actor has signed on to parachute from a plane for an appearance at the Chicago Air and Water Show that's taking place next month. If planes buzzing about isn't something that appeals to you, maybe Murray descending from the sky will? He will perform a tandem jump with the Golden Knights skydiving team on August 15. That's a way to get new viewers -- come watch celebrities fall from the sky! Meanwhile... Are you a Roger Dodger fan? If you haven't seen this flick, you should run out and rent it, pronto. Campbell Scott stars as an uncle who takes his young nephew (Jesse Eisenberg) out on a night on the town to teach him the ways of male adulthood. While at a bar, they come across Elizabeth Berkley and Jennifer Beals, who spend some time with the pair. Now EW has found out that the two ladies are reuniting on the final season of The L Word. Instead of playing friends who do what they can to help young Nick become a man, the Showgirls star will play the straight girl who got away from Beals' Bette in college. Oh, the possibilities!
First Look: The Characters of Monsters vs. Aliens Jul 23, 2008 kevtaylor Other Film School Rejects were taken around for an inside look at the studio’s next animated feature Monsters Vs. Aliens. Basically the premise of the film, if you haven’t seen anything for it, is that Aliens have landed and are threatening the world…and only Monsters can defend us. The cast is really fun, and the characters are sure to please any fan of old school monster/sci-fi films. The CGI cast from the film can be seen from the link above
Ryan and Abbie Bring Ava and Deacon For Magic Fun Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other It may not be as educational as visiting the Tate Modern, but Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish brought Ava and Deacon for a different kind of day trip to Magic Mountain in LA yesterday. As usual, Ryan and Abbie put on their hats — though, guess she's not so blond-again after all — to shade them from the sun on the day out with the kiddies. It's sweet to see that the two little ones have been enjoying lots of bonding time with both their parents' new significant others around the world and home in LA. Of course, some rides around on the roller coaster are always a fun bonus.
Shia Stays Out of Trouble, but the Cops Are Watching Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other Shia LaBeouf stayed incognito grabbing a cold beverage in LA earlier this week. There was a spring in Shia's step on the way back to his car, but at least he wasn't running from any real-life danger like last week's on-set fire. Shia has managed to stay out of silly trouble this month — so far — but considering the ways he has manged to get himself arrested in the past, we never know when the police he's walking past will find something wrong with what he's up to.
Cash, Money, Moms: Why Bale Was Busted Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other Sources tell TMZ Christian Bale has had a long-standing difficult relationship with his mom and Bale's camp believes the motivation for the whole assault charge may be $$$. We're told when Christian's mom and dad divorced nearly two decades ago, his mom forced him to choose between the two. Christian picked his dad, and father and son moved out to L.A. in 1992, where his dad became his manager. Somehow Bale's relationship with the mom has been "bitter" ever since. Bale has told friends his mother was extremely jealous of both his and his dad's success. Last Sunday, Bale let his mom and sis into his hotel suite, though it was by no means an olive branch. As we first reported, there was physical contact, but somewhere in between a push and a brush. No one fell and no one was hurt. Christian's camp thinks this could be nothing more than a shakedown. We're told some newspapers and mags have already been throwing around "insane" amounts of money for the story, so mom and sis could score big. But our sources say the cops are starting to see the whole thing Christian's way, and the charges could disappear faster than Batman.

Nick Jonas Selena Gomez Dating Rumors Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other Managers for The Jonas Brothers have sparked rumors that 15 year-old Nick Jonas is secretly dating Selena Gomez after they requested a photograph of the teens hugging be edited out of the new issue of Rolling Stone, which features a cover story on the singing trio. “It’s a picture of Nick, Joe, Kevin and, yes, a beautiful young brunette in a scarlet-red top. Nick has his arm around the girl’s back and the girl’s arm is wrapped around his,” Rolling Stone’s Jason Gay writes “Her name is Selena Gomez, she’s Demi Lovato’s best friend and a big new Disney Channel star. The genuine affection in the photo is obvious.”

Rant: Leave Comic Books Out Of Superhero Movies Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other For a few decades near the middle of the century, Westerns were the genre filmmakers turned to when they wanted to say pretty much anything. There were pacifist Westerns (Ox-Bow Incident) and patriotic Westerns (Dodge City), anti-McCarthyism Westerns (High Noon) and anti-Vietnam Westerns (The Wild Bunch). Westerns could be excellent or terrible, but they dominated movies at the time, the genre that packed the theaters like no other. Today, instead, we have superhero movies, and up until this point there have only been a few kinds of them-- the ones where one guy becomes a superhero and beats up the super bad guy, the ones where a guy is born as a superhero and beats up the super bad guy, and the one where a bunch of people get together and beat up the super bad guy. Wash, change costumes, repeat, rake in dollars. But then, this weekend, The Dark Knight happened, and millions of people who may know nothing more about Batman than the bat signal—surely not all of them saw Batman Begins-- flocked to movie theaters around the world to catch a classy, exciting adventure that just happened to involve a cape. Christopher Nolan is the first director to really tell a comic book story that leaves no trace of its pen and ink origins, but now that Batman has leapt off the page, there may be no going back. The comic book movie genre is really only getting started-- in the next five years, and probably longer, we're going to see a ton of movies based on comic books, everything from well-known Marvel figures like Captain America to obscurities like Red Sonja. If these movies are going to be relevant, and are going to bring in the Dark Knight audiences who were in it for the quality more than the familiar characters, filmmakers are going to have to accept Nolan's tactic of starting with a comic book hero and branching out into all kinds of directions. And if they want to keep us from getting sick of superheroes, they're eventually going to have to ditch the source material. Comic books, those old printed relics, have meant a lot to a lot of people over the course of their existence. And their stories have gone in lots of directions over the years, particularly with characters like Batman and Superman who have been with us for so long. But comic books are just the jumping off point-- movies based on them will never say anything new when they're recycling stories written about in the comics 20 years ago. Nolan has proven that, to make a comic book movie that is truly great, you only need a little bit of source material and a lot of imagination. Why not send Batman to Hong Kong to fight crime? Why not ditch Robin? Nolan is treating the Caped Crusader the way Westerns directors treated Wyatt Earp—a vaguely defined figure who can tell a million different stories in the right setting. If comic book adaptations are going to continue thriving, they have to get away from the origin story pattern and start spreading into new genres. The Dark Knight is a political thriller, and Seth Rogen's upcoming Green Hornet seems likely to be an action comedy. We're a nation fully immersed in superheroes these days, even though many of us don't know the difference between the Marvel and DC Universe. We don't need the details to be willing to buy a ticket. With that kind of trust, the comics themselves are only the beginning of where all these iconic characters can go. There are lots of different kinds of comic books, of course—the upcoming Watchmen is likely to be as different from Superman as The Wild Bunch was from Stagecoach--and they will contribute to the growing stable of comic book adaptations that are about much more than men in tights. But to get to somewhere great, to get our superhero obsession to have something to say, the makers of these comic book adaptations have to open them up, roll the pre-existing mythology into a ball and use it sparingly, if at all. If these movies are hoping to become meaningful on a large scale, they shouldn't come with required reading attached.

If you’re as excited about this movie as I am, you’re watching them right now. I watched them twice, to satiate the sting of missing the press screening that happened in my hood tonight. It’s all Comic Con’s fault. It was the only time I had to pack. So if you see me at Con wearing a CB t-shirt, then just know that shirt cost me a showing of one of the year’s best stoner action movie. Damn you Con!

The Creatures and Characters of Monsters vs. Aliens Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other Dreamworks Animation has released eight promotional trading cards showcasing the creatures and characters of their upcoming 3D computer animated film Monsters vs. Aliens. Who’s Playing The Watchmen? Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment has announced that they will be producing a series of video games based on the upcoming big screen adaptation of Watchmen. But you won’t be able to buy these games in stores, instead WBI will be releasing them for download for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The first game is expected in March 2009, around the time of the film’s theatrical release. A follow-up will hit in time for the film’s home video release. Many fans believed that it would be impossible to make a feature film out of the acclaimed graphic novel. Some of those naysayers are beginning to change their tune. But what about a video game adaptation? I’m not sure the series lends it self to that medium. And while the future of video games will no doubt be downloadable, using this revolutionary stepping stone might lead mainstream gamers to believe that the result will be a lower-quality product not worthy of retail sale. It will be interesting to see how this big experiment turns out.
The Dark Knight Video Game in the Works! Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other And you thought they forgot? /Gamer has news that Warner Bros is working to release a video game based on The Dark Knight. Apparently, Gary Oldman, who plays Lt. James Gordon in the film, revealed to G4 that the game will be hit stores around the same time as the DVD/Blu-ray release of the movie. Not much else is known, although we can assume from Oldman’s comments that some of the talent from the film provided voice work. No word on if Heath Ledger provided any additional voice tracks for the game. Could this be the first good Batman video game? I’m skeptical. The film is more of a crime drama/thriller than the normal comic book action movie, and I’m not exactly sure how that will translate for a video game. Read More on /Gamer.
The Dark Knight Review Jul 23, 2008 jr139 Other Does "The Dark Knight" live up to all the hype? Umm.....HELL YES.
New "Nightmare on Elm Street" in 2009 Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other New Line has taken a step forward in bringing Freddy Kruger back to the big screen. The now Warner Bros division has hired veteran scribe Wesley Strick (Arachnophobia, Cape Fear, The Saint) to pen the re-launch of the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series, the franchise that helped establish New Line into a movie player in the mid-1980s. The original "Nightmare" was written and directed by Wes Craven and released in 1984. It created one of the most popular villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund, and its runaway success spawned a slew of sequels. The films' premise centered on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered who returns with a burned face and razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams. The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Krueger himself. The plan is to have a dark tone. The company hopes to have the movie ready for the 25th anniversary of the original, which is next year.
Ebert and Roeper Replacements Announced Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other During negotiations to extend Richard Roeper's contract for "At the Movies," Disney ABC Domestic Television abruptly ended the talks. Thus Roeper, followed by the show's co-founder, Roger Ebert, left the show. On Tuesday, Disney ABC have announced that E! Entertainment critic Ben Lyons and Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz will take over hosting duties on a revamped "At the Movies" aimed at a younger demo. Meanwhile Roeper and Chicago Tribune critic Michael Phillips will shop their show to interested buyers. Variety mentions that in 1983, when Ebert and his first co-host Gene Siskel first left PBS's "Sneak Previews," Jeffrey Lyons, the father of Ben, took over the show. Now twenty five years later, his son is taking over for Ebert as well. Ben Mankiewicz is the son of Frank Mankiewicz and grandson of screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz (Citizen Kane).
"Hancock" Director Taking On "Hercules" Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other "Hancock" director Peter Berg is spearheading a fresh take on Hercules for Universal. Berg will produce and will develop to direct "Hercules: The Thracian Wars," a co-production of Spyglass Entertainment, Berg's Film 44 and Radical Pictures. Ryan Condal will write the script, based on a five-issue comicbook series by Steve Moore that debuted in May through Radical Publishing. Producer Barry Levine said the creative partners came together because Spyglass' Jonathan Glickman, Berg and partner Sarah Aubrey wanted to develop a film that stayed true to the comicbook. "What resonated for them was that this was character driven, about a character who's more man than god, with conflicts and redemption," he explained.
International "Death Race" Poster Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other RottenTomatoes got their hands on an international poster for the upcoming "Death Race" remake," featuring a shot of Jason Statham holding the Frankenstein mask with the race going on behind him. In the movie, ex-con Jensen Ames (Statham) is forced by the warden of a notorious prison (Joan Allen) to compete in our post-industrial world's most popular sport: a car race in which inmates must brutalize and kill one another on the road to victory. Check out the trailer for more on this movie. "Death Race" is written and directed by Paul WS Anderson, the man behind such films as "Mortal Kombat," "Resident Evil" and "AVP: Alien vs. Predator." "Race" is scheduled to hit theaters on August 22nd.
Jonas Brothers' New Home Jul 23, 2008 ILOVEJosephJonas Other The Jonas Brothers reportedly bought a house in a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb — and some young neighbors sound thrilled. Tarrant County records obtained by The Dallas Morning News indicate that the three band members granted power of attorney to their mother, Denise Jonas, to buy a $2.8 million, six-bedroom house in Vaquero, a gated community in the suburb of Westlake. The documents were signed June 12.
Kennedy to return for 'Scream 4'? Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other Jamie Kennedy has hinted that he may reprise his role as Randy in Scream 4. The Weinstein Company confirmed last week that it is making a fourth movie in the horror franchise. Kennedy told iFMagazine that movie buff Randy could return in the new film, despite having been killed off in the previous instalment. He said: "I actually had a conversation with somebody very big in the organisation, and there’s a way. "I don’t know what’s going to happen, but they have plans for a lot of things. You can see new faces that you wouldn’t expect and you can see old faces that you wouldn’t believe. There’s a way to bring a lot of things around." Talking about the possible involvement of previous director Wes Craven, he said: "[That's] the only way they're going to do it."
George Lucas plans 'Star Wars 3-D' Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other George Lucas is planning to re-release all six Star Wars films in 3-D. Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animations, confirmed to Coming Soon yesterday that Lucas will repurpose his sci-fi saga for a new format. "He isn't going to put a product out, I think, that isn't anything other than first rate," Katzenberg said. So far, The Nightmare Before Christmas is the only 2-D film to have had a re-release in 3-D, however a new 3-D version of George Romero's zombie classic Dawn Of The Dead is also in the works.
'Dark Knight' stars pledge to vote for Ledger Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other Heath Ledger's co-stars in The Dark Knight have revealed that he already has three Oscar votes in the bag. Rumours have been rife that the late actor will secure an Academy Award nomination for his performance as The Joker in the latest instalment in the Batman franchise. Speaking at the film's premiere on Monday night, Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent/Two Face) told Teletext: "I'm a member of the Academy so I can vote for him." Sir Michael Caine, who plays butler Alfred Pennyworth, added, "So can I", while Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel Dawes) said: "I'm a member too - the Oscar can only go to Heath."
2012 (Roland Emmerich) Jul 23, 2008 ant1239 Other Starring: John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt. U.S. Release Date: July 10, 2009 (Wide) Back in February, blockbuster director Roland Emmerich revealed that his next big movie would be one titled 2012, a disaster movie that takes place in the year of the title. Emmerich's next finished movie is actually 10,000 B.C., which hits theaters this coming Friday. Our friend Steve from Collider caught up with Emmerich last weekend while he was promoting 10,000 B.C. and tried to get him to reveal what exactly happens in 2012, but still had no luck - he's keeping a very tight lip. But if you're interested in trying to guess what it might be or just want to know exactly what Emmerich said, read on. And considering this is the next big $200 million epic summer blockbuster, we're sure you'll want to know. The script for 2012 is apparently so good, that the studios started a bidding war for distribution, with Sony ending up the winner. Now it's heading into production for a July 10th, 2009 opening. Emmerich has said previously that "it will be very expensive, you see the whole world go to shit" and other sources reported that the "project has more going for it than the big idea that studios love," but what exactly that means yet, no one knows. All that we do know is that 2012 is the year that the Mayan calendar (pictured to the right) ends and many others have predicted that it will be the apocalyptic end of the Earth. What Emmerich is depicting, however, is a "natural disaster" of some sorts. Before we get into the juicy details, Emmerich explains his inspiration for the movie, and how he convinced himself, after saying he'd never do another disaster movie, to do 2012. "…This whole movie I'm doing next was inspired by just the phenomenon of the internet when you type in Google, '2012', you get 240 million hits. That's a lot. And it's just, so many people write about it, believe it, that our world comes to an end in 2012. I said wow. I kind of said before I will never do a disaster movie again. I said, for this idea I have to do it again."
Megan Fox is a Tough Transformer Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other Megan Fox takes a break from filming on the set of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which is being filmed in Venice Beach. The 22-year-old actress recently talked about her work on Jennifer’s Body, which will be released early next year. “I have a few love scenes. I eat and seduce everyone — boys and girls. There’s a lot of kissing and craziness. It was awkward, it’s always awkward and it’s never fun,” Megan told Pop Tarts. “Johnny Simmons and I got really close and became really good friends, so it was hard not to just laugh hysterically and endlessly,” Fox said. “So I’m kissing him and he’s like my brother — it was really awful. He got spit in my mouth and it was gross.” But as far as her work on the new Transformers movie goes, Megan knows not to spill any details. “They’ll kill me if I say anything,” Fox said. “I’ll get fired and they’ll replace me with Eva Longoria.”
The Jonas Brothers Cover Rolling Stone Jul 23, 2008 Petes1234567 Other It’s no wonder that the The Jonas Brothers are the latest cover models for Rolling Stone, as photographed by Max Vadukul. With a wildly popular tour and a new record expected to sell millions, Nick, 15, Joe, 18, and Kevin, 20, make up “The Clean Teen Machine”. Here’s an excerpt from the mag’s feature article on what differentiates each of the JoBros: “Kevin, the oldest, is the extrovert, chatting up bus drivers and security guards, crouching on his knees to greet little kids at shows… Middle child Joe, who resembles a prettier version of the actor Peter Gallagher, is the quieter Jonas, with a wild alter ego revealed onstage, where he swivels his hips and twirls a mike stand like a lightsaber. ‘I’m really inspired by Mick Jagger and Freddie Mercury — the big frontmen,’ he says. ‘I heard Jagger does an hour on a treadmill before every show.’ … Nick, by contrast, is the Jonas Brothers‘ boss — the spokesman, the best musician, the chief songwriter. It might seem odd for Joe and Kevin to take their lead from their kid brother, but the Jonases don’t see it that way. “Nicholas has always been older than he was,” their father tells me. Despite his heartthrob status, Nick has more Eddie Vedder in him than he does Shaun Cassidy.” Read the full article online at Rollingstone.com. Be sure to also check out the behind-the-scenes video of the Jonas Brothers shooting their RS cover here.

Matthew McConaughey, Camila Alves, Baby Levi OK! Magazine Baby Pictures Jul 23, 2008 SexiVixxEN Other Actor Matthew McConaughey, Camila Alves and their new baby Levi are featured in the latest issue of OK! magazine. Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves share details of the birth and picutres of Levi. Matthew: “Contractions started kicking in, and we found a great rhythm. We had a 14-hour session, her and I did. I sat there with her, right between her legs. We got tribal on it. We danced to it. I was DJing this native Brazilian music.” Camila: “For 14 hours.” Matthew: “We were jamming! She was sweating. No painkiller, let’s go. She just clicked into that gear that only a woman has at a time like this. We’d been up for 40-something hours, and we went from dead tired to a really steadfast, ‘Let’s handle this… let’s stay in the rhythm. Don’t let the contraction be more than you.’ Eventually, a C-section was ordered, to which Matthew McConaughey commented, “He came out with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, so it was the right thing to do. Of course, if we’d known this was how it was going to go, we could have gotten it done in the first three hours. We laughed, but that was Mother Nature and the baby saying, “Thank goodness for Western medicine.”
